Seeing the World Historical Sites

Some people collect stamps, others build sandcastles or write novels or go spelunking.  But me, my hobby is visiting historical sites.  Whether it’s the battlefield at Gettysburg, Mt. Rushmore, the Statue of Liberty and the wall at Ellis Island, or the Golden Gate bridge or downtown Brooklyn, I’ve seen them all.  However, after all these trips, visits, and excursions there is no doubt about my favorite: the mall in Washington, D.C..  Featuring museums, monuments, and other bastions of Americana, the mall is a history lover’s dream come true and, as an American, can be a truly inspirational place to visit as well.  In fact, my most cherished photograph is one taken of me and my father at the base of Abraham Lincoln’s chair at the Lincoln Memorial: right at the far end of the mall and directly opposite of the towering Washington Memorial.
