The desire express ourselves and capture the world around us is one of humanity’s most primal and basic urges. From the earliest cave painting to the high art of the Italian Renaissance we have always striven to adequately express our feelings about the world around us and to simultaneously leave some mark upon it for future generations. While no one would argue that the Italian masters accomplished such a task or that the earliest carvings from Babylon and the far east have had a lasting impression on the human imagination there is one thing missing from all of these works. It could be said of all of them that they are cold, stoic, and removed from the world around them. They are cloistered away in museums or hang in the private collections of the super rich. True many of these are treasures and are rightly so protected and kept safe. However there is a funny contradiction to the idea of capturing the world around you and then having to keep that image away from the world. There is a growing trend in many major urban centers that aims to undo this very contradiction, to take beautiful art not just to the street but to put it one the street.
Street painting is the practice of creating masterful works of art out of chalk in public spaces. Often this street painting includes an element of whimsy and playfulness such as the use of forced perspective to create the illusion of depth or height. I like to be entertained, but I find myself frustrated by how complicated some of the newer technology is. Sometimes I just want to watch a good program on TV, and when I had my old cable box, that was quite a feat. I decided that I would go online and compare satellite tv prices, and I liked what I found. My son Jacob works for a company as a software engineer, and he absolutely loves his job. Recently his supervisor had an employee recognition ceremony, and Jason received one of three corporate awards, which were for perfect attendance, best innovative idea, and best team player. My son said everyone gave him a standing ovation, which thrilled him to no end. As his mother, you can only imagine the pride I’m feeling at this very moment. I thought to myself, “How did I get so lucky to have given birth to such an amazing son?”. There were several other awards that were given out as well, which ended in a picture perfect day.

On Friday morning I walked down Kirkland street to the coffee house that opened on the first of last month. They tend to have the best cup of coffee in town, at least that is what my girlfriend seems to think. While walking down to the coffee house my friend Sam called me on my mobile phone. Sam told me that he was going to be coming over later than he thought that night. It seems that he had just started taking Melbourne guitar lessons and would be running late. We had been planning on going over our plans for our upcoming trip.

The other day my mother asked me what I have been trying to find online. She knows me very well, she could tell that I had been searching for the answer to something. I told her that I have been trying to find the answer to the question how can I improve my singing range. It is something that I really want to do. My mother knows how much I love to sing and she suggested that maybe I can start to take singing lessons. She said that she will ask around and see if she can come up with the name of a good teacher.
