My parents own a large horse ranch, and ever since I was in high school, it’s driven my mom crazy that she can’t talk to my dad when he is in the barn. But they don’t have cell phone service of any kind at the ranch, so mom didn’t really have any good solutions. Until a few weeks ago when I suggested to her that she get motorola radios, and put one in the house and one in the barn. She loved the idea, and so when they arrived, I helped her set them up and learn to use them. Now she can talk to dad when she needs him – although I keep telling her the ladle and iron triangle would have worked just as well!

My boyfriend has a band that has been together for many years. They practice in one of the band members basements and play at quite a few local events. The sing a variety of music blues. My boyfriend actually writes most of his own songs that they sing. He plays all sorts of instruments, just an all around talented musician. Being that my boyfriend is an older guy, he has many older members in his band, but regardless of their age, they perform just as if they were the hottest new band to come alive. They have put out a few Cd’s and are looking to make another one, very soon.

Like so many other people out there, I have struggled in this tight economy. For the past 3 years I have run my own business out of my home. For the first two years things went well, but the last year has been really tough. I was talking to some friends of mine about it, and they said they have had the same problem. As I’m getting closer to retirement this is very concerning. I need to be looking into over 50s life insurance. I want to make sure that even though things are tight, I’m still protected. I was thinking the other day after I watched another news story about a miracle medical procedure that changed a young boy’s life from misery to normalcy. When I had retired ten years ago it was with the thought that I would never ever have to work again. My investments had paid off and we were able to live comfortably on our returns and were only cashing in what the government told me I had to spend. My father works for a commercial glass company. He is the head salesman and in charge bidding different jobs around the city and state. He has often times been low on work and is stuck looking for jobs.
Recently he heard about government bids and has turned to that when low on work. He has done work on the county jail and many other government jobs.
This is just something that he will turn to when work is low, but it is a good option regardless. The contracts are usually more strict, where some jobs you can use your discretion, there are certain guidelines you have to follow when working with the government.
